THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When southern districts of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam showed a decrease in the spread of infectious diseases, the districts in Malabar region showed a northward trend.
With the two districts making a tremendous leap in containing the diseases, the Health Department has decided to take forward the initiatives in the other districts.

A decision in this regard was taken at the evaluation  meeting of Arogya Jagratha programme held here on Wednesday.

Health Secretary Rajeev Sadanandan and heads of various departments such as LSGD, Education, Health, Kudumbashree, Suchitwa Mission, Indian Systems of Medicine and Medical Education.
In the meeting, the various heads of departments said steps as part of the programme would be strengthened. It was decided to create more awareness against contagious diseases and also to focus more on prevention.

Arogya Jagratha is a one-year-long programme aimed at prevention and control of infectious diseases. The year-long programme is being implemented with the cooperation of Aardram Mission, LSGD and other departments. As part of Arogya Jagratha, several programmes such as awareness classes, house visits and destroying mosquito breeding sources will be held.

The programme is envisaged in such a way that everyone is actively involved in it.
