VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) council meet witnessed a fresh controversy where ‘Vande Mataram’ was played at the beginning of the meet instead of the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’. It may be recalled that TDP corporator Allu Jayalakshmi proposed the resolution of playing the national anthem before commencement of the meeting.  In the earlier session held on May 16, 2017, the council approved it.

Ignoring the resolution, the technical staff of VMC started playing Vande Mataram and majority of council members expressed anguish on this. VMC co-option member MD Fathulla and others immediately approached municipal commissioner J Nivas and informed him about the mistake happened.
