VIJAYAWADA: The Guntur police have denied permission for the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS)  to conduct ‘Kurukshetra Mahasabha’ at the Bible Mission Grounds located opposite Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) on July 7.

To put pressure on the State government for categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SCs), MRPS founder-president Manda Krishna Madiga has announced a public meeting in the said grounds and also applied for police permission. Meanwhile, the Mala Mahanadu, which is opposing the categorisation of SCs,  also applied for police permission for holding a public meeting in the same ground on the same day.

The police, sensing trouble in case of giving permission for any of the groups, denied permission for both the meetings.Speaking to  mediapersons in Guntur on Thursday, South Coastal Zone Deputy Inspector General K V V Gopala Rao said that as there is scope for law and order disturbance with the congregation of two groups at the same venue at the same time, they have denied permission to both the groups.

He further said that there was also no permission from the owner of the concerned land for organising the meetings.

As Section 30 the Police Act is in force in Guntur Urban police district, the DIG appealed the organisers to cancel the public meetings and also urged people not to attend the same. The police will not allow anybody to enter into the proposed public meeting area and will arrest if anybody tries to violate the restrictions, the DIG warned. Guntur urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao was present.
