VIJAYAWADA: Alleging that the revenue officials failed to act on his complaint over conversion of his agriculture land into residential plot by four persons, a farmer from West Godavari district committed suicide by consuming pesticide at the Collectorate in Machilipatnam on Monday during the weekly grievance redressal programme ‘Mee Kosam’.
The deceased farmer was identified as Chunduru Sivarama Varaprasad (52) and he got 1.37 acres of land at Peyyeru in Mudinepalli mandal. According to Machilipatnam police, Varaprasad reached the Collectorate around 10 am to seek redressal of his grievance at the ‘Mee Kosam’ programme. He met Joint Collector P Subba Rao and complained that four persons got his agriculture land converted into residential plot in collusion with some revenue officials, without his consent. He allegedly had a property dispute with Adusumilli Satish Chowdary, A Venkat Rao, A Rajakumari and Chinthapalli Krishna Kishore.
“I met all the officials concerned seeking redressal of my grievance. I submitted three petitions in this regard in the last 10 months, but none of them was looked into,” he said.After submitting his petition, the farmer told the Joint Collector that he had consumed pesticide and collapsed. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he died.Having learnt about the incident, Krishna District Collector B Lakshmikantham ordered a judicial inquiry into the suicide and extended financial aid to the bereaved family.
