VIJAYAWADA:  Vijayawada City Police Commissioner Gautam Sawang, who has been sidelined for the State police chief post, may either opt for central service or take over as Director General (DG) of the Anti-Corruption Bureau .  Sawang, who was one of the top contenders for the coveted DGP post, belongs to the same batch as RP Thakur, who has been appointed head of the State police force.

Though being a DG rank officer, Sawang has been working as Vijayawada police commissioner for the past three years. Sawang who took charge as Vijayawada city police chief on August 2015, has earned many accolades for bringing in innovative initiatives in policing.

After Thakur’s elevation as the DGP, there is speculation among police circles as to what post Sawang will get and who will take charge of the ACB.Against this background, Sawang met Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday at his residence at Undavalli and discussed his future plans.Sources said the CM tried to mollify Sawang and assured him of a suitable post. The only post that is suitable for Sawang, a 1986 batch IPS officer, is Director General of the ACB. “If he does not opt for central service, the only other post suitable for his rank is DG of ACB,” said a top official.
