VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has developed greenery along Bandar canal bund stretch in a bid to prevent indiscriminate dumping of waste.Until a few months ago, the stretch was an eyesore to the passers-by as garbage, especially plastic waste, had accumulated at several points.

The greenery works commenced on the 3-km long stretch between Pandit Nehru Bus Stand and Screw Bridge Junction in March. The works were executed by four contractors at an estimated cost of `2 crore.
According to VMC officials, canal beautification works have been taken up across the city.
