VIJAYAWADA: Predicting that the TDP would face defeat in the elections, the results of which will be out on May 23, the Opposition YSRC has said that N Chandrababu Naidu seems to be mulling the idea of winding up his party and merging it with the Congress.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, senior YSRC leader Tammineni Sitaram said Naidu was trying to be on the centrestage of the national politics as he would lose in the State elections. “The TDP is staring at an imminent defeat,’’ he predicted.

“The May 23 results will give the worst-ever defeat for Naidu and he will, in all probability, merge the TDP with the Congress as there is no other alternative,’’ Sitaram said and added that unfortunately, a party, which was formed to decimate the Congress, will be merged with the same party.

On Naidu’s “tall claims” of playing a crucial role in the national politics, Sitaram said that AAP in Delhi, SP-BSP combine in UP and TMC are not ready to align with the Congress.“Even Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is not willing to join the Congress alliance,’’ Sitaram said.
