La Trobe’s MoU with JSS university

Please tell us about this MoU with JSS University. What are the features of the student exchange programme and how will it benefit both varsities?

La Trobe University and JSS University recently signed a student exchange agreement which will provide opportunity to students from both the universities to visit the other university for a period of six months to one year. This will facilitate their participation in various study or research project.

Both universities have been working very closely for several years now and earlier this year, three of La Trobe University’s pharmacy students visited the JSS University for a two-week study tour programme.

LaTrobe also announced scholarships for Indian students. Which subjects are they for and are they open to all Indian students?

La Trobe has announced scholarships for two students from JSS so that they can spend six months at the School of Pharmacy as part of this agreement. Each of these scholarships will be worth close to `8 lakh. There is a collaborative research project that La Trobe University intends to undertake with JSS University and University of Agriculture Sciences, Bangalore, in the area of anti-obesity and anti-diabetic properties of herbs and spices.

The Centre for AgriBioscience with $288m investment is all set to operate, please tell us more about this.

The official opening of the Centre for Agribio sciences will be in March 2013. Universities in India including Punjab Agricultural University and the University of Agricultural Science, Bangalore, will be able to participate in collaborative projects in the areas of agriculture, articulture, animal sciences and plant biotechnology for future food shortage.
