I am pursuing my B Tech in Mechanical Engineering. I got placed through campus in a reputed IT company. I am also interested in civil services. Should I not take the job to prepare for the exams?
You must reconfirm your career preference as the choices you have indicated are very diverse. The UPSC exams which are the qualifying exams for IAS are very tough with prelim and final written exams followed by an interview, if you qualify for it. Thus, I feel you need to devote sufficient time for preparation in order to excel in them and that would be difficult along with a job. Hence, I would recommend that you choose your priority. Another alternative is to work for 2 years and then do your MBA in HRD or Public Administration.
I am pursuing my master’s after a B Tech degree. I appeared for the GATE exam but I didn’t get through. So I tried to find a job but my parents weren’t too keen on me working. What should I do next? Doing a master’s degree is a wise decision. Complete it with good grades as this will be a good foundation for the future. You may then seek jobs in any company of your choice or some research organisation such as ICSSR, TIFR, IISc, IITs to name a few. You may also consider doing your PhD in an area of your choice. Do decide on the next steps in consultation with your parents so that you can focus your energy in the right direction.
