SDF Wins Majority in Sikkim Assembly Election

The ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) won 18 of the 22 seats in the 32-member state assembly the results of which were declared Friday.

GANGTOK: The ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) won 18 of the 22 seats in the 32-member state assembly the results of which were declared Friday.

According to officials, the newly-formed Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) which was expected to give a tough fight to the party had secured four seats so far.

The Pawan Chamling-led SDF has been ruling the Himalayan state since 1994 and in the last assembly election in 2009 the party had swept all 32 seats.
