No prohibition by AINRC, says CM N Rangasamy

Puducherry chief minister N Rangasamy today ruled out imposition g a total prohibition of liquor  in the union territory if his government is re-elected.

 Briefing  newspersons after releasing the party All India NR Congress 's (AINRC)  election manifesto  at the party office today, Rangasamy said “there is no question of imposing total prohibition here”.Liquor is the main source of revenue here .Further he pointed out that culturally also it was not possible said the  chief minister .  Puducherry was a French colony and the present life style of people and their habits  and the prevailing culture will not give any room for imposing a total prohibition, he said. Besides lot of tourists especially foreign tourists visit Puducherry.

It may be recalled that BJP had promised a total prohibition, while CPI and CPM had promised to implement prohibition in a phased manner in Puducherry. AIADMK remained silent on Prohibition in its manifesto.
