HYDERABAD:  Following the complaints and controversy on election day over deletion of names of many voters in the State, the Election Commission of India issued a clarification that the deletion of names had been done as per due process of purifying electoral roles and was not done intentionally or by mistake as reported by some in the media.

In an official note, the ECI maintained that about 26 lakh voters had been enrolled in a span of few months after the draft rolls were published in September and that citizens had been given ample opportunity to have their names included.

The clarification issued stated, “Objections under Form No.7 are invariably invited from citizens to raise objections within seven days before carrying out deletions. Similarly voters are required to apply in Form 6 if they want their names to be included.”  The official communique added that voters were expected to check if they can vote during the “Check Your Vote” campaign carried out from 26th October to 5th November 2018.
