After his Bollywood debut ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ hit the screens last week, Rana Daggubati is all geared up for his second Telugu release — ‘Nenu Naa Rakshasi’ . The actor talks to Varsha Bansal about his movies, varied roles and the two film industries.
From donning the role of a young politician in his debut movie ‘Leader’ to playing a fun-loving Goan musician in the recently released ‘Dum Maaro Dum’, seems like Hyderabadi hottie Rana can slip into different characters with ease. His upcoming flick ‘Nenu Naa Rakshasi’, which is all set to hit screens on April 29, is sure to vouch for his ability to play diverse roles — this time around he’s a ruthless professional killer.
Tollywood vs Bollywood
Talking about the two film industries, Rana says, “I don’t like those big names. For me it is the Telugu and Hindi storytelling industries.” Even though he doesn’t find much difference in both the industries apart from their respective ways of telling a story, the actor did feel that he was in another land during the promotions of DMD.
“During the promotions of ‘Leader’, I felt at home because there was some form of support structure for me. But, while promoting DMD, I had few friends and I did feel like I was in a different land at some point,” confesses Rana.
DMD and the Goa controversy
Before DMD even hit the screens, a controversy regarding the portrayal of Goa as a drug centre hit the news. The movie did receive a censor certificate, but now it seems like it was much ado about nothing. “The story of DMD was entirely fictional,” says Rana, continuing, “Goa was purely used as a backdrop and nothing more since Goa was never captured on a celluloid before.”
‘Nenu Naa Rakshasi’
“This movie is about two extreme characters with dark pasts, who fall in love,” says Rana, who loves cinema and watches a whole lot of movies. “The movie revolves around the concept of suicide, death — how so many people at some point of time have wanted to commit suicide,” he continues. Talking about his expectations from the film, the actor adds, “I am breeding butterflies in full force. But, honestly with movies of an offbeat genre, we can’t really expect anything. All I can say is that the audiences will see something that they have never seen before.”
Rumours of Romance
While Rana is all praises for his co-star Ileana and her performance in ‘Nenu Na Rakshasi’, he denies his link-up with the actress. “When the cast of a movie goes all out to promote a film, for some reason, the limelight shifts from the movie to the promoters and people start linking them up,” says Rana. He also believes that these rumours die down very quickly. He further adds, “I read somewhere, where Johnny Depp had said that a rumour is something that a third party decides and declares it to the world. It is not true and that is why it is called a rumour.”
