LOS ANGELES: Oscar winning actress Brie Larson will star as Victoria Woodhull, the first woman to run for president of the US, in an upcoming film titled by Woodhull's name.

The film is being made by television network Amazon Studios, reports variety.com.

Besides starring in the film, Larson will also produce 'Victoria Woodhull', which has been penned by Ben Kopit.

Woodhull ran for the presidency in 1872, more then 40 years before women had the right to vote, and although she lost, she paved the way for women's suffrage and women's rights for years to come.

Larson can currently be seen in 'Kong: Skull Island'.

She also has films like 'The Glass Castle' and 'Captain Marvel' in her kitty.
