'Aata' had created a lot of hype in Sandalwood and expectations among the cine-goers. Producer Shailendra Babu too had high expectations on 'Aata', as he has launched his son Suman as hero with this film. Director Vijayakumar also expected 'Aata' to overtake his earlier film 'Nanda Loves Nandita' in which Yogesh had made debut as a hero. However, there is nothing to revel
about this flick.
The script by Shashank has many shades of other language films and it moves on the predictable lines. As far as Sumanth’s performance is concerned, he has to go a long way before establishing himself as a hero. In most of the sequences, he looks stoic. If his dancing skills are any indication, it seems that choreographer Harsha has a soft corner towards him due to the reasons best known to him.
Newcomer Vibha looks beautiful and has a great future if she takes her career in Kannada films with more seriousness. In a college campus scene, an eunuch indulges in eve teasing which looks incongruous. If the mannerism and dialogue delivery of that character are any indication, it seems that one has to tease that character instead of allowing it to indulge in eve teasing. The director even allows eunuch to indulge in fisticuffs with the hero.
Shankar from Mumbai has nothing to do throughout the movie except munching gutka in his mouth and delivering a few dialogues. It would have been better that Ashok Kheny dubbed his own voice for his dialogues instead of depending on a dubbing artiste.
It is about Rahul (Sumanth) and Vikram (Pradeep) college students who lead the two football teams of the college. As expected, Rahul’s team always gains an upper hand over Vikram’s team. In a peculiar situation, Rahul happens to see Swathi (Vibha), the sister of Vikram, on a video. Smitten by Swathi’s beauty, Rahul falls in love with her.
As expected, Swathi’s parents want her to marry an affluent person. Meanwhile, Rahul’s sister elopes with her lover. Swathi pleads Rahul to marry her but the latter convinces her to wait for sometime. Do you know what happens? Swathi comes to Rahul’s house and consoles his parents. Do you expect Swathi’s father (Avinash) to keep quiet? Nah. If you want to know what happens, watch it on the silver screen.
Sadhu Kokila has tried his best to tickle funny bones of audience but has failed miserably. It is worth watching if you have patience to cope with its lengthy climax.
