MUMBAI: Veteran actor Dilip Kumar and playwright-stage director and filmmaker-writer Sai Paranjpye will receive the prestigious Madhya Pradesh government’s Kishore Kumar Award for their contribution to Indian cinema.

The award carries a prize of Rs. 200,000 and a shawl citation, and will be given Oct. 13 on the occasion of Kishore Kumar’s 28th death anniversary. Paranjpye will be present at Khandwa, the birthplace of Kishore Kumar, to receive the award, and the honor will be given to the actor at his home in Mumbai. Kishore Kumar’s son Amit Kumar will be present during the award ceremony in Khandwa.

Interestingly, Kishore Kumar sang for Dilip Kumar in the 1974 “Sagina” (which is said to be ghost-produced by the latter actor) besides co-starring in the film “Musafir” (1955) without coming together onscreen. Amit Kumar has sung for the veteran actor in his last film “Qila” in 1998.

Kishore Kumar’s association with Sai Paranjpye is also restricted to the song “Maine Tumse Kuch Nahin Maanga” from “Katha.”
