After judging TV shows like Indian Idol and Indian Idol Junior, Salim Merchant of the music composing duo Salim Sulaiman is now venturing into full-fledged acting with a short film for the mini-series Love Shots.
As a composer, some of Salim-Sulaiman’s most famous tunes have been composed for Yash Raj Films (Chak De India, Aaja Nachle, Mardaani) and the current minis series too is being made by Yash Raj Films, through its division, Y-Films.
Salim says, “While acting was a new avenue for me, I feel cinema is like an endless expanse and one can visit any of its avenues. As a composer, I understood how songs were made for actors and enacted by them, and to be on the other side was a great experience.”
The short film featuring Salim is called Fired and co-stars Tillotama Shome (Monsoon Wedding, Shanghai). Salim smiles, “Having a seasoned co-star like Tillotama made me very comfortable in front of the camera."
