The movie is a re-make of the Surya-starred Tamil box-office hit Kaakha Kaakha that was re-made in Telugu as Gharshana in which Venkatesh played the lead role. Though director Madesh has followed the original version faithfully, the pace of narration is not up to the mark.
If Chiranjeevi Sarja’s acting is anything to go by, it is too early for him to play this type of lead role that requires dedication and experience. The problem with Sarja is that he fails to understand the importance of ensuring action as per the requirement. For example, the opening scene in which Sarja surfaces from a lake with bullet injuries. We see him swimming with right hand only since he could not use left hand due to a bullet injury. However, later he uses his left hand as support to climb up the lake bund.
Ramya looks sensuous in a song sequence and has extended maximum cooperation during the shooting by being flexible.
The movie is about Assistant Commissioner of Police Surya (Chiranjeevi Sarja) who believes that punishment is the only solution to end the menace of rowdies. Surya happens to meet Maya (Ramya), a school teacher, in a peculiar situation. Maya mistakes him as a rowdy but later realises her mistake and apologises to him. Meanwhile, Surya eliminates Drugs Manja in an encounter. It enrages Manja’s brother Tamate Shiva (Ravishankar). He vows to take revenge on Surya. He kidnaps Maya and attempts to eliminate Surya.
Among the artistes, Ravi Shankar, after his sterling performance in films Kote and Kempegowda, hogs the limelight again. The speciality of this movie is its producer who plays the role of a retired encounter specialist from Mumbai. The interesting thing is, Umesh Banakar, playing the role of a producer while Kannada Somu, who made the Kannada movie Sorry, plays a doctor’s role. It is worth watching if you have not watched the original version in Tamil.
