Rajadhani talks about youth

From our online archive

Though a number of movies have been made with a message to society, especially to youth, the movie Rajadhani has the potential to claim the first place among all. The unique selling point of Rajadhani is that it showcases how majority of youth from the middle-class families in Bangalore have become irresponsible and also depicts the consequences they have to face for selecting wrong methods to earn money. Director Raju has narrated the story well and has not allowed characters to stray as per their whims and fancies.

However, there are a few dialogues that are too hard to digest. For example, the dialogue — girls look out for such boys who can do their work and boys look out for such girls who want their work to be done by them — mouthed by Satya conveys a wrong meaning. The dialogue — Did I ask you to become my daddy? — by the main character (Yash) is also too hard to digest.

The movie is about five youths (Yash, Satya, Sandeep, Ravi Teja, Chetan Chandra),  who have no responsibility towards their parents. They like to be parasites than making an attempt to work hard for their livelihood. They do not even clear their debt at a tea stall. As if it is not enough, two of them (Yash and Chetan Chandra) fall in love with two girls.  And the other one, a kleptomaniac, helps them with his skills to have expensive lunch at hotels.

Circumstances compel them to kill a person and land up in prison, thanks to Ajay (Prakash Raj), a strict police officer.

They became famous after that incident. They happen to meet Manohar (Achyut) who assigns them to kill a rowdy for `15 lakh. One of them advises others not to take up the assignment but that falls on deaf ears. They succeed in killing the rowdy and circumstances compel them to kill a few more people to safeguard their position in underworld activities.

Out of the five youth, Yash steals the show. Prakash Raj’s acting is superb while Mumaith Khan’s dancing skill is an added attraction.

Music director Arun has provided lilting tunes. Ramesh Bhat and Umasri have provided good support.

The movie is worth watching by youth, especially those who avoid hard work, and parents who fail to warn their children.
