Be it playing an adulteress or smooching on screen Remya Nambeesan loves to break conventions. After turning into a sweet-and-strong mom in ‘Sethupathi’, the actress is looking forward to her Kannada debut ‘Style King’ opposite Ganesh. “It’s a family-oriented story, a mass entertainer which has Ganesh in two different avatars. My character Priya is a homely girl who wants both her beau and family. She wants them to be together without any friction. The film will hit the screens this month,” she says.
In her career across all south industries language has never been a barrier, says the actress. “As an artist I haven’t experienced any particular hardship in Tamil or Kannada. I always feel that there is a strong cultural closeness that binds these industries together. The only difference is you have to take some extra effort when it comes to dialogues. But once you are into the character these small hassles are immaterial. While doing ‘Style King’, all my co-stars including the hero have been very supportive,” she explains.
Remya says she usually takes a day or two to get into the skin of her character. “It’s same with all languages and after the initial glitch it’s always a smooth ride.
The actress, who was last seen in ‘Saigal Padukayanu’, says she is not very keen on signing all the films that come her way. “Be it art-house or mainstream I want to be part of films that excite me. I am not in a hurry to increase the number in my filmography.” She adds that it’s not necessary that her choice of films always work. “You can never predict the future of a film. The final output, how your character adds to the totality and how it’s accepted - these are things beyond your control,” she says.
Sethupati, her latest film, is an action-packed cop drama and Remya says she was least worried about her limited reel time. “When the film was offered the character came across as a small one with limited screen space. But after the release it was noted and much appreciated. So it all depends on how the script treats a character,” she says. So what’s next after ‘Style King’? “I will be doing a Tamil film, the details of which I can’t reveal now. I am also going through a couple of scripts in Malayalam,” she winds up.
