KOZHIKODE: The movie ‘Indian Rupee’ bagged the award for the best Malayalam feature film at the 59th National Awards of India on Wednesday. The blockbuster movie was directed by noted film director and script writer Ranjith. This is the second movie directed by Ranjith to win the national award for the best Malayalam feature. His movie Thirakkatha had won the award in the year 2009.

Ranjith has directed around 15 movies and written scripts for more than 40 movies in Malayalam. “The award for Indian Rupee is a great achievement for the cast and crew of the movie,” said Ranjith, talking to the media after the announcement of the awards.

“Movies should be well received by the public and generate profits for the producers. I am glad that Indian Rupee has achieved both these purposes,” added the director, who is on a winning streak with all his latest movies.
