The title reminds you of a long-lost past - vignettes of an idyllic childhood. And Arun Viswam says that’s exactly what Kolumittayi, his debut film, intends to do - taking you back to revisit those much-cherished memories. “The film will take you on a trip down memory lane. It explores childhood friendship and has two popular faces - Master Gourav and Baby Meenakshi - playing the leads,” says the director.

Set in the late 80s, a good part of action in the film takes place inside a rural UP school. “Gourav plays Unni, a class 6 student while Roshan and Siddharth appear as his close pals. Meenakshi steps into the role of Ria and Unni’s attempts to impress her leads to a tiff with another classmate and they end up challenging each other,” says Arun. While Master Naif plays another key role, Saiju Kurup, Kalabhavan Prajod, Devi Ajith, Anjali and Priyanka are part of the cast.

He adds though the film is set in the past, new-age kids can easily relate to the situations shown. “School friendship in the 80s was a lot different from what they have today. But that will not stop the kids from striking the right code. They will be able to enjoy Kolumittayi from the very beginning.” The film’s tagline is ‘sweet memories’ and Arun says since it’s a children’s film he wanted a title in-sync with the subject. “Kolumittayi sounds sweet and fun.”

Arun says the main highlight of the film will be its rural backdrop, village sights and sounds evoking nostalgia. The music composed by Sreeraj Sahajan will be another attraction, he adds.

“We are getting great response for the songs.” Abhijith Ashokan, who has co-scripted the film with Arun, is the producer of Kolumittayi. The film is expected to hit the screens next week.
