'Nee Illade' (Kannada, Drama)

Director: Sivaganapathi

Cast: Raghu Mukherjee, Pooja Gandhi, Bullet Prakash, Kari Subbu

It may not be an exaggeration to say that ‘Nee Illade’ is one of the movies that should not have been screened at theatres. Reason being, the poor quality of cinematography testing the patience of audience. There is nothing to crow about the skills of director Sivaganapathi. He neither has the control over the artistes nor has followed the script faithfully. He allows artistes, especially a bunch of junior artistes who have nothing to do with this movie, appear on the screen just to mouth a few irrelevant and meaningless dialogues.

It is sad to see Raghu Mukherjee, who earned name and fame for his performance in the movie ‘Savaari’, in such a pitiable role. He has no scope to showcase his acting skills.

One feels sorry for Pooja Gandhi since the movie ‘Nee Illade’ is all set to be added to the list of her dud movies that were withdrawn from theatres within a few days. She has to be careful before accepting offers to act in such movies if she is serious about retaining her position in Sandalwood.

The movie is about Sharanya (Pooja Gandhi), an alcoholic, who happens to meet a singer named Sanjay (Raghu Mukherjee), in a peculiar situation. Smitten by Sharanya’s beauty, Sanjay falls in love with her.

Both are set to get married. Meanwhile, Munna enters the scene and tries to kill Sanjay. At this juncture, the director introduces a scene narrating how Munna and Sharanya are known to each other. How Sharanya married Munna despite her parents’ opposition and how Munna became closer to underworld dons is explained later. The director also narrates how Munna mistakes Sharanya’s parents as henchmen of an underworld don and kills them.

It would be difficult for the audience to cope with this awkward narration. There is nothing to revel about the music and songs are not up to the mark. All in all, it is not clear what made director Sivaganapathi to come out with this movie that helps neither him nor the artistes and even the audience, who not only pay money to buy the ticket but also give their valuable time. It is learnt that Pooja Gandhi had taken distribution of this movie for North Karnataka region to recover her dues (Rs 4 lakh) from director Sivaganapathi.

She might end up paying the theatre rentals from her pocket.
