'Vavvaal Pasanga' (Tamil)

Set in Kumbakonam, it’s the story of Kasi a youngster who works for a local cable service operator. Care-free and irresponsible, he is the biggest problem in his father’s life and the latter always compares him to his more responsible siblings.
As expected cupid strikes Kasi, but his lady love always ends up seeing him in many unfavourable situations. And, as expected, she is indifferent towards him and his feelings for her.
But, the time for redemption comes for the youngster, with a situation in his favour and he gets a chance to rise to the occasion. Turning matters in his favour, the situation may also earn him the love and gratitude of his father and his siblings.
Rahul (son of choreographer Lalita Mani) performs his role as Kasi with conviction. Debutant Uthara (daughter of Malayalam actor Urmila Unni) could have been guided better; her expressions are too ambiguous. She doesn’t have much of a role to speak of, being relegated to the background, when Kasi’s story takes a serious turn.
The disappearance of Kasi’s sister brings a twist to the tale.
The insipid, meandering screenplay suddenly gathers some momentum towards the latter part. Director Suresh (of Arasu and Gambeeram fame) introduces an element of mystery as the cops and the family search for the missing girl. Kasi, who has been alienated from his family, steps into the picture to search for his sister.
But the interest is revived just for a while, with the closing scenes slipping into heavy melodrama.
