The long pending issue of settling the losses incurred by distributors and exhibitors over the film 'Kuselan' may have finally come to an end. Pyramid Saimira’s Chairman, PS Saminathan, disclosed details of the same at a press conference in the presence of various distributors of the film.

According to the company, in addition to the amount of Rs 5 Crores paid by the producers, Pyramid Saimira has agreed to pay a sum of Rs 1.5 Crores to the affected distributors and exhibitors. In reply to a question, Saminathan agreed, “We have set a new precedence by this act. The film business is unpredictable and no one can say if a film will incur profit or loss. But we as a corporate are better able to bear huge losses unlike the distributors and exhibitors who may not be able to do so. Keeping this consideration in mind, we decided to compensate and Tirunelveli were the affected parties who have now jointly agreed on the settlement. The invitees at the meeting included Kalaipuli Sekar, Kavithalaya’s B Kandaswamy, Tirupur Sundaram Chitra Laxman, Srinivasan, Rajamannar, Surabhi Mohan, Vidyasagar and Bhaskar.

Answering questions on the fate of 'Marmayogi', Saminathan categorically stated, “Marmayogi has not been dropped. We have already made some investments in it. However keeping in mind the economic recession we are in talks with Rajkamal Films and Kamal Hassan about the budget of the film.” He underlined the fact that ticket prices in the US markets have come down by $4 since the people’s capacity to spend on entertainment and food has reduced due to the recession. Such factors have affected the film industry’s budgets for film making, keeping in mind, the cost recovery.
