After two subsequent hits (Kadhalil Vizhundaen and Masilamani), Nakul is gearing up for his next release Kandha Kottai on December 19. “I’m a bit nervous. Every film is like giving birth to a child,” says the 25-year-old actor, whose passion is cinema.
After working with a big banner like Sun Pictures for two films, Nakul was a little unsure about how the new team (Kandha Kottai) would be.
“Initially I was a little apprehensive.
I had worked with Sunaina and I knew her very well. She is my good friend. Fortunately I got used to the team and everything fell in place.
Poorna, my co-star in Kandha Kottai, is also a good friend now,” adds Nakul, who wants to work with his sister, actress Devyani one day.
Talking about his school days, Nakul confesses that he was a shy boy. “I was very shy and never had friends. I used to be in my own world, singing and dancing. Nobody in my family thought I would one day act in films. When Kadhalil Vizhundaen was released, I didn’t tell my mom or sister about the story.
When they saw the film, they were really surprised to see me on screen,” says the actor and adds, “People thought I won’t become a hero after seeing Boys but I did lose weight and have become an actor,” says Nakul, who has also sung a number in his film.
The actor recalls how fussy he used to be as a child. “My mom used to force me to dance at least to lose weight but I was not interested then and I still remember the shooting of my sister’s movie Swarnamukhi where I used to sing when the shooting was in progress.
When I entered the field, my mom advised me, ‘Everything is not fun. Life is serious and it doesn’t matter whether you win or lose, participation alone matters’,” adds the actor.
“I never thought I would become an actor. When I was in Bombay, there was a theatre on the way to school and I used to look at the film posters and compel my dad and brother to take me to the theatre,” confesses the actor.
He admits that he did fall in love as a teenager but subsequently broke up, but this only increased his maturity level.
The actor doesn’t seem to get influenced by remakes of yesteryear films. “They are original and you can’t recreate them though I would be happy if somebody remakes my film after 10 years,” laughs the actor.
