Yuva, Narendra Babu’s third directorial venture, extends beyond his earlier bracket of love stories. Unlike his previous films,O Gulabiye and Pallakki, Yuva shows us a different picture-- that of the underworld. The film rides on some excellent stunts choreographed by Cheeta Yagna Shetty from Mumbai. The opening scene, shot in Ramanagaram, is a visual treat.
Choreography by Saroj Khan is another highlight of this film. Saroj Khan even makes a brief appearance on the screen.
Debutante Karthik performs well in stunt and dance sequences. But he has a long way to go when it comes to portraying emotions.
Karthik looks stoic in the most emotional of situations. The heroine Madhu Sharma, can figure prominently in Sandalwood, if she realises her full potential. She looks good and dances well.
Shobaraj plays a different role with this film. Gulshan Grover is convincing as a don who wants to lead a normal life. There is a problem with dubbing for Grover though, as his dialogues do not synchronise with the lip movement at various places.
The plot revolves around Jeeva (Karthik) who is the son of a government employee (Ramesh Bhat). Frustrated with his father’s apathy towards the family and his obsession with playing cards, Karthik wishes to break out and do well with his education. He falls in love with Sridevi (Madhu Sharma), who happens to be the daughter of an underworld don Anna (Gulshan Grover). The duo wants to work hard at college but there are some impediments. Meanwhile, circumstances force Karthik to murder an underworld don and kill the henchmen of another don. The more he tries to keep away from the dark underworld, the more it pursues him. The story gets tied together with how Karthik manages to teach the antisocial elements a lesson and also gets united with the love of his life.
Yuva is a worthwhile watch if actionpacked love stories interest you.
