CHENNAI: ACTOR Prabhu Deva's wife Ramlath's (Latha's) petition in the family court was a longawaited one, after months of media speculation.

Though news of the rumoured relationship and actor Nayanthara's marriage with Deva have been spreading like wildfire since June 2009, the first official statement about their marriage was made only in midSeptember by Deva himself, a week before the celebrity duo participated in an awards ceremony in Hyderabad and were conferred the 'Super Jodi' title. Ever since, Ramlath's opposition to the wedding has been reported. In fact, there were reports in September of Ramlath having begun an indefinite hunger strike in front of her residence at Anna Nagar to oppose the relationship. It later turned out to be a rumour.

In June 2009 rumours broke of their 'secret wedding in Hyderabad.' The duo then began making public appearances as a couple, in late 2009. Nayanthara even tattooed Deva's name on her hand, openly expressing her love. His statement that he and Nayan were going to marry was verified with the industry observation that the actress has reduced her film commitments. It was suspected that this was following pressure from Nayan, who wanted him too to go public about it. This did not go well with Ramlath, who has now taken the issue to the court and on the same day, Deva stated in an interview that there was only a couple of months left for his wedding with Nayanthara. The couple reportedly fell in love during the making of Villu, directed by Deva with Nayan in the female lead.
