“Wait for a few weeks and you’ll see a new me,” beams Kollywood’s bold and beautiful girl — Namitha.
The actor, whose latest movie Ilaignan hit the screens recently reveals, “I kicked off almost nine kilos for my forthcoming Kannada movie. I had put on a lot of weight for Ilaignan, but director Suresh Krishna had no complaints, as my character required such a curvy look.” The sensuous actress is now following Rujuta Divekar’s (Kareena Kapoor’s dietician) strict diet routine and yoga to shed those extra kilos and the results are already evident. “It will be a real surprise for my fans. Those who had seen me recently, couldn’t even recognise me,” laughs Namitha.
She was last seen in Jaganmohini and almost a year-and-a-half later, she is back in Ilaignan. Why such a long break? “After Jaganmohini, I read scripts for almost 18 movies but none of them were convincing. I prefer quality in my movies, not quantity. Meanwhile, I did a couple of movies in other languages. My Telugu movie Simha was a superhit. I also did Malayalam and Kannada movies,” says the actress.
Is she keen on pairing up with top heroes? “I don’t want to name any films, but there were times when I was told that my role was a good one and had great scope, but nothing like that happened when I went for the shoot. Later, I was informed that my scenes were postponed to the next schedule, but I never heard from them again. In three consequent films that came my way, I had only a few scenes to do and an item song. I don’t want that to happen again and that’s why I’m very choosy. Being in the industry for seven years now, I’ve become extremely selfish when it comes to my role in a film. If I get a good role, yes, I would pair up with top heroes,” she adds.
Talking about her latest release, Ilaignan, in which she plays an Anglo-Indian, Namitha says, “It was a great challenge to do this film, as we had live dubbing. I got an opportunity to speak full-fledged dialogues in Tamil. It was an honour to deliver these dialogues penned by Kalaignar.”
