Sana Khan started off her film career with ‘Ee’, but her role as Jaanu in ‘Silambattam’ opposite Simbu, was what caught the attention of the audiences. But after ‘Thambikku Indha Ooru’ and ‘Payanam’, Sana is now awaiting the response to her role in ‘Aayiram Vilakku’, slated for release this Friday.
Hosimin, of ‘February 14’ fame, is the director. Sana plays the role of an interior designer from Madurai, Megha, and is confident that Megha will overshadow Jaanu.
Shooting for ‘Aayiram Vilakku’ has been a memorable experience for her. But the ‘Silambattam’ actress says she faced a lot hurdles while shooting this film. Explains Sana, “‘Aayiram Vilakku’ has made me mature. My patience levels and professionalism were put to the test. Also, I got to play a significant role.”
While shooting for ‘Aayiram Vilakku’, her mother suffered a brain hemorrhage on March 13, 2009. The incident occurred seven days after shooting for the film started. The actress had to conceal her emotions while shooting for the film. “A 20-day schedule was already planned. My mother was admitted to the ICU and it was at the same time that I was doing my first Telugu film, ‘Kalyanram Kathi’. As we could not back out owing to tight schedule plans, I had to shuttle between the shooting spot and hospital,” reveals the actress.
However, she is confident that her role in ‘Aayiram Vilakku’ will fetch her rave reviews. “Megha has a pivotal role to play in this film. She also gives a patriotic speech in one of the scenes,” she says.
Recently, the actress got into a small controversy after her comment on smoking in ‘Payanam’. “I played a passenger who is held hostage in that film. However, that one line “smoking helps you lose weight, one lung at a time”, got me into trouble. It was misinterpreted, rather half understood. Only the first part was taken into consideration and people thought I endorsed smoking,” she says.
She is also doing another Tamil project, which will be announced officially in November.
However she is a little upset that another Tamil flick, ‘Saandhupottu’, with Sibiraj, in Nandakumar’s direction has been shelved. “I chose the script solely for the reason that it was a female-oriented subject. But after shooting for 20 days, in Chennai and Cudappah, the producer, who is from the US, went missing. Had this film shaped up, I’m sure the industry would have got a good film,” she says.
Sana says item numbers are something that she will refrain from doing. “Item numbers in Kollywood are different from those in Bollywood. And I have to be popular and experienced to do a cameo in a film. I don’t want to do such roles when I’m building my career.”
The actress is also considering Hindi films and she is working our vigorously to keep herself fit.
“I have been concentrating on south films for a while, and I’m preparing myself to take up Bollywood projects.”
Sana Khan is also working with NTR’s grandson, Manoj in Mr Nokia. The film has been directed by Krish of ‘Vedam’.”
