The team of Soodhu Kavvum (SK), is in an upbeat mood after seeing the reception for its trailer and songs, which were launched recently.
The film seems to be special for most of them. For producer C V Kumar and actor Vijay Sethupathy, who have given two consecutive hits including Pizza in which they worked together, the success of SK will be a hat-trick. For Studio Green, this is their second collaboration with C V Kumar after Attakathi, which tasted big success. Playback singer Gana Bala, whose songs in Attakathi and Pizza to Santhosh Narayanan’s music became huge hits, has played a cameo in a song called Kaasu Panam Dhuddu Money Money in SK, apart from having crooned the number. For editor Leo John Paul too, this film is the third with producer Kumar.
Though the film’s director Nalan Kumarasamy is a debutant, Karthik Subburaj, who was also a short film director like Nalan earlier, vouches for the latter’s talent. “Nalan’s strength is his script and dialogues,” he says. The song Kaasu Panam... was screened at the launch function, while a live performance of two other songs was performed by the heroine Sanchita Shetty.
Though Vijay Sethupathy is now a household name, bagging SK wasn’t easy for him. “I’ve known Nalan for a while, but he first refused me when I asked for a role. I told Karthik Subburaj to recommend me to producer Kumar and only then was I selected. I know that Nalan’s content is his strong point and so I wanted to be part of this film,” he says. The film has newbies Ashok Selvan and RJ Ramesh Thilak along with Simha, playing the three members of Vijay’s gang — Vijay, incidentally, plays a 40-year-old in the film. Speaking to CE, Vijay discloses, “I play Das, who has a gang of three boys. It’s a film in the dark humour genre. They are criminals, but the things they do are with utter seriousness, and the problems they face will make people laugh.”
If all goes according to plan, the filmmakers could well be singing their own song, Kaasu Panam Dhuudu Money Money, all the way to the bank!
