Southern actress Namitha, known for her glamorous roles in films such as "Aai" and "Chanakya" over the years, is excited to don the khaki for the first time on screen in upcoming Tamil-Telugu-Kannada trilingual "Ilamai Oonjal".

She is extremely happy to steer away from monotonous roles she has been doing for a long time.

"It was a conscious decision to play a cop role. I'm excited as well as happy because in a very long time, I have got an opportunity to do something different. The director even offered me one of the heroines' roles in the film, but I refused because I wanted a challenging role," Namitha told IANS.

"I don't think I want to do any glamorous roles anymore. I don't mind strong character roles as well. I'm glad I got this opportunity to play a cop. I managed to pull off some stunt sequences as well in the film. I think this will be my best part so far in my career," she added.

Over the years, Namitha has also featured in a few item numbers across Tamil, Kannada and Telugu industries.

Directed by Harirajan, "Ilamai Oonjal" is getting ready for release soon.
