CHENNAI: The first look poster of Mani Ratnam’s upcoming romantic-drama Kaatru Veliyidai, has been trending on social media ever since it was released. And Karthi can’t be any happier because he’s finally getting to act in a film directed by his mentor!

It’s well-known that he assisted the Roja director in Aaytha Ezhuthu (2004), besides a schedule of the Hindi version Yuva (2004). The actor took to social media and said this is a dream project for him. “Learning time. Thanks a lot for all the best wishes (sic),” he posted on Twitter. Suriya also congratulated his brother on the micro-blogging site.

If you’ve been observing Mani Ratnam’s titles, you would have noticed that he has been greatly inspired by Tamil literature. Apparently, Kaatru Veliyidai is the opening line of a popular Bharathiyar song Kaatru Veliyidai Kannamma.

Rumours are abuzz that the Paruthiveeran (2007) actor plays an NRI in the film and falls in love with a doctor played by Aditi Rao Hydari, while on a trip to India. Sources say that the actor has even been learning the basics of flying! One also may recall that the project was initially supposed have Sai Pallavi as the leading lady.

Produced by Madras Talkies, the film will have lyrics by Vairamuthu, with music by AR Rahman and cinematography by Ravi Varman. Set against the backdrop of a war, it’s said that the makers begin shooting in Ooty soon. Meanwhile, Karthi is busy wrapping up work on Kashmora.
