Here’s a great news for all Thalaivar fans! Rajinikanth’s cult classic Baashha, which is one of the most-viewed film on television, will be re-released by RM Veerappan of Sathya Movies, in a digitised version on Superstar’s 66th birthday on December 12. Directed by Suresh Krissna, the film was released in 1995 during Pongal, and turned out to be a milestone in the actor’s career. The movie was much talked about for its punch dialogues like ‘naan oru dhadava sonna, nooru dhadava sonna maadhri’.

A source close to the actor said, “What else could be an apt birthday gift for him? The colour restoration, DI correction work and the digital mastering of the initial prints are in full swing. The previous version had mono sound, but this one will have stereo sound. Rajinikanth’s movies are timeless, so we expect that the movie would re-create the same magic.”
Baashha was later remade in Kannada as Kotigobba with Vishnuvardhan and Priyanka Upendra in the lead. After the release of Padayappa (1999), there were rumours that Baashha was being remade; but the makers felt that it would not equal the original, and dropped the plan. There were plans of a Hindi remake with Amitabh Bachchan, but it didn’t materialise.
In one of the interviews, Suresh Krissna was quoted saying, “Baashha can still be born in a different avatar.” So, will it set the cash registers ringing this time too?
