Cinematographer Tirru, who recently won the National Award for his work in 24, has been signed up for Sundar C’s ambitious Sangamithra. We had earlier reported that cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee had walked out of the film owing to issues over the schedule.

An elated Tirru who has replaced him, says, “The story is exciting. It will definitely be a good project.” Would he compare the grandeur to that of 24? “This is totally different. We are doing great research into kingdoms like Chola, Pandiya, etc. Although much of the universe is based on imagination, we are trying to get certain things right.”
Talking about the CGI work involved in the film, he says, “I’m equally responsible in figuring out the whole methodology. As part of the process, we have to get the characterisation  right. We have to study their body language, and other traits. We also have to capture the presence of the lead actors.”
On being questioned as to why he chooses scripts set in the past, he laughs, “I don’t know. But I guess it’s because these projects are challenging.”
