Actor Mir Sarwar, best known for his work in films such as Phantom (2015) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), is making his Tamil debut in Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai. He plays the primary antagonist in the film, which stars Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari in lead roles. Describing the experience of working in the film, he said, “It’s every actor’s dream to be part of Mani Ratnam’s film. It certainly wasn’t any different for me. I was lucky enough to land a very important role and it was a wonderful experience to be part of the project,” Mir told CE.
He had to leave Neeraj Pandey’s Naam Shabana to accept Kaatru Veliyidai. He has no regrets over his decision. “Unfortunately, dates for the both the films clashed. I chose Mani sir’s project because I know I might not get another opportunity to work with him,” he said, and added that his portion is completely in Hindi and he even dubbed in his own voice. Mir plays Karthi’s superior in the film. “He’s a very polite and cooperative co-star. We bonded over movies, tourism and many other things.”
He is interested in exploring more opportunities in the south, “I have already been getting calls from south Indian film industries. I don’t want to rush; I want to choose from the best.” In Bollywood, Mir is wrapping up Jagga Jasoos. Meanwhile, Kaatru Veliyidai, produced by Sri Thenandal Films, is gearing up for April 7 release.
