Actress Jyothika and director Bala have been slapped with a legal case over the use of vulgar language in the teaser of the upcoming film 'Naachiyaar'. The complainant is a man named Rajan from Mettupalayam.

The case has been registered in section 294 (b) of IPC which penalises singing, reciting or uttering of any obscene word in a public place, and section 67 of IT act which penalises publishing or transmitting obscene material through electronic media.

The case will be heard at the Mettupalayam court on November 28.

The official teaser of the movie was hosted on YouTube on November 15 in the channel 'Filmmaker Bala'. It consists of a scene where Jyothika's character vents out anger using a cussword directed at a male character. The word, in general, is derogatory to the mother of whom it is directed at, just as most swear words in the vocabulary are targeted at 'maligning' the women associated with men.

It is to be noted that trailers and teasers played at movie theatres and on television are normally vetted by the censor board. However, trailers released on YouTube do not go through any censorship.
