Rakul Preet has been shooting for her next Tamil film, Theeran Adhigaram Ondru, with Karthi. The duo recently shot for the film in the suburbs of Chennai with artificially created rain. Though she has previously shot in such rain for other films, this one stands out, according to her. She had to shoot for the rain portions for two continuous nights, from 8 pm to 4 am.
The scene demanded that she get fully drenched and run down a hillock. Upon arriving at the bottom of the hill, she had to trip and fall into thick, muddy slush. But her ordeal didn’t end there. She had to do this again and again till the shot was okayed and the rest of the action was completed.
“Since this scene was shot at night, it was awfully cold in the open. Between shots, I sat covered in slushy mud, with a towel wrapped around me. I got quite hungry too as we were shooting all night non-stop,” says Rakul.
In between shots, if the salwar kameez she was wearing dried off, she had to change into a different set of clothes, and get drenched all over again. Even the chair she sat in got muddy, making it an uncomfortable night like the sort she had never had to endure previously.
The actress says she never quite liked doing rain sequences for this reason. “As an actress, I have to take extra care of my hair and skin after such shoots. After the Theeran shoot, I had a tough time getting all the mud off me. I had to wash my hair and take special care to protect my skin from any germs that may have been in the slush.” But she has no regrets.
“Director Vinod has shot the scene very realistically, and this is a film I am really looking forward to. I am confident that the film will be worth all the trouble I underwent,” she adds.
