HYDERABAD: Just minutes after returning to the hostel campus after a week’s vacation, a 17-year-old intermediate student was found hanging from the ceiling at her hostel room in Narayana Junior College in Bandlaguda. No suicide note was recovered. Following this, a number of student groups protested at the campus. While reasons for her death are still unknown, Shravya, a BiPC student from Veligonda in Choutuppal, considered to be a ‘bright’ student, committed suicide even while her father who came to drop her was still in the building.

“We will be booking a case under Sec 174 of the CrPc to inquire and report on suicide,” police said.
Achuyta Rao, a city-based child rights activist, alleged that she might have resorted to the extreme step due to pressure from the college.
