HYDERABAD: Taking advantage of his contacts with families of his former students, a former vice-principal of a corporate college at Miyapur stole 82 tolas of gold and Rs 1.40 lakh from a housewife in Kurnool recently.
The Kurnool police on Wednesday nabbed the accused in the city with the help of their city counterparts.
The accused, 35-year-old M V Narasimha Rao alias Narasimha Chowdary, used to work as a vice-principal of Sri Chaitanya junior college at Miyapur.
During his tenure in the college, Narasimha Rao collected contact numbers of his students and used to maintain cordial relations with their families.
According to Kurnool II town police inspector V V Naidu, Narasimha Rao recently came in touch with the family of his former student, Vaibhav.
Vaibhav’s family stays at N R Peta in Kurnool. Vaibhav is presently studying MBBS at a college in Davangere.
During conversation, Narasimha Rao came to know that Vaibhav’s father Keshav Kumar was out of town on some work. Narasimha Rao landed in Kurnool on November 17 morning and straight away went to Vaibhav’s house.
Vaibhav’s mother, Lakshmi Devi, was alone in the house.
``Lakshmi Devi offered him breakfast. In the meantime, Narasimha Rao offered a `Fruity’ laced with sedatives to Lakshmi Devi who unknowingly consumed it.
When the woman fell unconscious, Narasimha Rao went through the almirahs of the house and managed to lay his hands on 82 tolas gold and Rs 1.40 lakh cash,’’ Naidu said.
Narasimha Rao fled with the valuables to the city.
Investigating the case, Kurnool police found that Narasimha Rao was staying in the city. ``Our inquiries revealed that Narasimha Rao had not been working with the college for the past six months,’’ Naidu said and added that it was not confirmed whether Narasimha Rao was suspended or he was abstaining from duties.
With the help of mobile phone signals, police narrowed down on him near Ramanthapur and with Amberpet police support, nabbed him.
