BHOPAL:Over two dozen teachers and ten policemen were injured in a lathicharge during a protest here today, police said.

Police lathicharged and tear gased contract teachers who marched towards Chief Minister Shivrajsingh Chouhan's residence to stage a demonstration for they have not received their 'honorarium' for last four months.

The protesters alleged that the cane charge was uncalled and barbaric, while the police said that they used mild force after stones were hurled at them.

Over two dozen teachers have been injured, four of them are in serious condition, Rajya Adhyapak Sangh, Madhya Pradesh, vice president Jagdish Yadav said.

He said that the there was no need for the police to resort to barbaric cane charge on them near Banganga Crossing, adding that over 10,000 teachers drawn from districts of the state had come down to stage demonstration here.

The teachers were not getting their honorarium for three to four months and because of this they were forced to live in abject poverty, Yadav said.

He said that they want that they should get salaries rather than honorarium. "Our salary is less than labourers," he said. .
