ROURKELA: Former president A P J Abdul Kalam will be awarded a honorary DSc, while three former students will be awarded the distinguished Alumnus-2009 awards at the annual convocation of the National Institute of Technology here on January 16.

Kalam has given his consent to be the chief guest on the occasion and the chairman of board of governors, NIT, Drona Rath will preside over the seventh convocation of the institute.

N R Mohanty of 1965 batch, and former chairman, HAL, Bangalore, Sukhendu Mishra, 1969 batch entrepreneur and Prof Damodar Acharya of 1970 batch, Director, IIT, Kharagpur will be awarded the prestigious Alumnus-2009 awards for their significant contribution to society, Director, NIT Prof Sunil Kumar Sarangi told mediapersons here today.

In all 326 B Tech, 135 M Tech, 20 M Tech (research) 30 MCA, 27 MSc students and 13 Phd students will be awarded degrees on the occasion.
