Express News Service

NEW DELHI: Bollywood singer Mika Singh, not new to controversy, was arrested on Thursday for assaulting a doctor at a concert held in city’s Inderpuri locality in April, however, he was released on bail later.

The singer didn’t appear before the police even after he was served several notices.

He came to Inderpuri police station around 1 pm on Thursday where he was first questioned and arrested for assaulting Shrikant, an ophthalmologist, on April 11.

A case under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (wrongful restrain) of the Indian Penal Code was registered on April 12.

A senior police officer said they had served a notice to him in connection with the case. “We questioned him before he was arrested. Later, he was released on a personal bond of Rs 20,000,” the officer said.

According to Mika’s lawyer, Sanjay Bhatnagar, “We came here for investigation and Mika gave his statement. He is not a criminal and did not commit a crime. It is a bailable offence”.

The incident had taken place at a concert organised by the city-based  Ophthalmological Society at the Pusa Institute Mela Ground in Inderpuri. The police had registered a case of causing hurt and wrongful restraint against the 38-year-old singer, after a video of the alleged incident had gone viral on the social media.
