SRINAGAR: A blast took place near the office of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in uptown Srinagar on Saturday night.
CRPF spokesman in Srinagar, Rajesh Yadav, told New Indian Express that a blast was heard in Rajbagh area of uptown Srinagar at around 9. 15 pm.
He said they have contacted the nearest deployment of CRPF about the blast.
The BJP office is situated at Rajbagh, Srinagar.
“There is no confirmation yet from our deployment about the blast,” Yadav said.
However, State BJP chief spokesman Sunil Sethi told New Indian Express that their office in Srinagar has come under attack.
“We don’t have information what material was used but it is possibility that the grenade may have been hurled on our office,” he said.
Asked whether the BJP office has suffered any damage or were there injuries in the blast, Sethi said there is no such information.
On Independence Day, the BJP office bearers had unfurled tri-colour at its party office at Rajbagh, Srinagar and sang national anthem.
The BJP office remains abuzz with activities with party leaders visiting the office and holding the meeting with the party workers.
However, a police spokesman said no attack has taken place on office of a political party at Rajbagh.
“No such incident has taken place,” he said.
The spokesman, however, said some loud sound was heard in the area, which is being verified.
“There is no apparent damage to the office or neighbouring buildings. The matter is being investigated into,” he said.
The police spokesman said some rumours are being circulated on social media regarding alleged attack and ransacking of an office of a political party at Raj Bagh.
“Strict action under law will be taken against rumour mongers,” he added.
