AMETHI: Activists of Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) burnt the effigy of Union minister Smriti Irani claiming that it was because of her that Uma Shankar Pandey has been nominated for Gauriganj assembly seat.

BJYM activists led by its Musafirkhana mandal office-bearer Sanjay Tiwari burnt the effigy of the Union Textiles minister, raised anti-Irani slogans and protested against BJP's poll nomination to Pandey.

They alleged that Pandey was not the right candidate for the area. However, no party office bearer were available to comment on the issue.

Uma Shankar Pandey was the polling agent of Irani when she fought against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Amethi Parliamentary Constituency in 2014 Lok Saha polls.
