NEW DELHI: A festive atmosphere prevailed today at the 10 Akbar Road bungalow where president-elect Ram Nath Kovind has been staying since filing his nomination for the top constitutional post.

Flower pots were lined up at the main entrance while several baskets of flowers, including choicest roses, were taken inside the bungalow premises, to welcome Kovind, who defeated opposition candidate Meira Kumar by bagging 65 per cent of the votes.

The Delhi Police also heightened security at the bungalow, the official residence of Union minister Mahesh Sharma.

"We have been working here since morning, sweeping the pavements, trimming hedges, putting flower pots at both the entry and exit gates," said a staff of the New Delhi Municipal Council.

Close to 99 per cent voting was recorded for electing India's next president.
