NEW DELHI: A Jodhpur sessions court will decide on Saturday whether to release Bollywood actor Salman Khan on bail in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case in which he was convicted.
District and Sessions judge Ravindra Kumar Joshi on Friday reserved order on Salman’s bail plea after hearing arguments on the suspension of sentence and bail application.
The judge also sought the record of the case from the lower court. Salman was convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment by a trial court on Thursday.
His counsel Mahesh Bora contended there were various loopholes in the investigation and that the eyewitness was not reliable. He also argued that no investigation in any of the poaching cases proved Salman used firearms.
After his sentencing on Thursday, Salman was sent to barrack no. 2 of the Jodhpur central jail where he spent the night restlessly. Sources said Salman was not given any concession inside the jail and was served simple meals.
The actor was given sprouts and milk for breakfast, said Deputy Inspector General (jails) Vikram Singh. He was given Hindi newspapers in the morning on his request.
Salman met his lawyers and bodyguard Shera before the bail hearing in the court.
Later, actor Preity Zinta, who has acted with him in several films, met him in the jail.
