NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has busted a WhatsApp group with members from multiple countries for uploading and circulating pornographic child abuse videos and images.

As part of the crackdown on the WhatsApp group, the agency carried out searches in five cities and arrested one accused person, Nikhil Verma, from his hometown Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh. The group had been active for two years and had 119 members and five administrators, two each from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and one from Maharashtra.

The searches were initiated after the agency registered a case under Section 67-B of the Information Technology Act. Uploading, sharing and even seeing child pornography is a crime under the Act.
Besides India, the group had members in the US, China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Kenya, Nigeria, Mexico and New Zealand.
