RANCHI: Four policemen, deputed at the residence of MP Karia Munda in Khunti, were abducted by Patthalgadi supporters after Police lathicharged on them while they were performing Patthalgadi at Baridih village on Tuesday. The four policemen have been identified as Subodh Kujoor, Vinod Kerketta and Suyon Surin while another one managed to escape from there.

"We are looking into the matter an efforts are being made to rescue them," said ADG (Operations) and Jharkhand Police Spokesperson RK Mallick.

Khunti Police, after getting information that Patthalgadi was being performed at Anigara village on Tuesday, SP Ashvini Kumar Sinha marched for the village along with a police force of 200 policemen and asked villagers to cancel their programme and go back to their homes.

Instead, the villagers started surrounding the police force to make them captive. The police warned the villagers to stay back, but they did not pay heed to it and started pelting stones on them.

The police, in retaliation, had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

Over a dozen villagers were said to have been injured during the incident.

The police, following the incident, had to withdraw from the area while villagers are still assembled there.
