CHANDIGARH: Cocking a snook at Punjab Police and Special Task Force (STF) who have adopted modern methods to catch drug smugglers, the peddlers in the state have also gone hi-tech.

Many WhatsApp groups have been formed by drug smugglers and addicts through which, messages are exchanged, drugs are ordered and their quantity and rate is decided. A times even the location is shared by either the addict or the drug courier for a hassle free delivery.

As these calls cannot be traced by the law enforcement agencies this medium has become an easy and new method for the drug syndicate, said sources.

Not just this, drugs suppliers are also fooling police by supplying drugs in the form of a concoction. During the interrogation of recently-arrested drug smugglers it has come to light that smugglers are selling the drugs either in liquid form or medicine-based drug concoctions and they are not getting the conventional drugs.

If the addicts know how to take the injection its fine, otherwise these ‘delivery agents’ of the drug mafia also inject the addicts with the ‘consignment.’

Also, to get the drug consignment into India from Pakistan the smugglers have started employing divers equipped with re-breathers to stop bubbles from surfacing, to navigate a 35 km riverine area in Ferozpur, Gurdaspur and Amritsar sectors of the international border.
